In my experience the Jaguars are not the greatest for heat. But it makes a big difference if you have a correctly working coolant thermostat. I would replace it.

I agree if it is stuck open the coolant never stays in the engine long enough to get hot and give out warn air. I've owned 3 Jaguars and all of them had very good heat. Mine starts blowing out warm air slowly only about 4 blocks from my house and I too live in chicago!

 

for my 98 xjr, there is virtually no heat when it's on the 'upper + lower' vent setting. It's just lukewarm air; however, when it's on the 'upper' vent setting only, it blasts out blazing heat no matter where the thermostat is set. I have no idea why, but I'll leave it 'as is' as long as I can get hot air.

 

How about when it's set to auto?

 

Jaguars have plenty of heat and they heat up fast. Its sounds to me like your problem may be the servo amplifier in the ac/heat control or the micro processor. If your engine temp gage is reading normal its one of the above problems. The ac/heat works by using servo motors that open and close gates or doors in the heater box. these work by the servo amp or processor and control the air temp and where it blows out. Also there is an electric heater boost pump on the heater hose line to move coolant into the heater core. If that motors not working the heat will be mild. If your engine temp gage doesn't come up to norm than its the thermostat or the cooling fan temp control sensor. Are the cooling fans running when the engine is cold?, if so its the fan temp control sensor.

I'm not getting any heat I have a s-type jag and I need help someone please......

 

2 common failure, 1st on Stypes heater control valvew sticks closed and wont let hot coolant into cores.
2nd Xtypes. recirc door breaks and always lets in cold air in the winter, turn on blend door to close it then take out pollen filter, if doors still open its broken, take out couple pieces of grid to get at it and close manually it should stay. This is also an issue with poor ac in summer

 

what else could it be ..... maybe the heating cord????

 

Brutal, we have pollen filters? Where is it located? I have a 2001 VDP.

 

have you tried turning off the ac buton, press and hold the recirc button till it double chirps, this will keep it closed to you shut off the car otherwise its timed and will reopen drawing in outside air again. This will keep reheating the air instead of trying to heat cold outside, this is not a permanent fix, but will keep you warmer as you work through diagnostics

 

Where is the pollen filter located?

 

Have you tried going to manual mode?

1. Wait until temp is past the blue line

2. Hit the Mode button until the arrows for feet and top vents are showing. You may have to turn down the fan because if it's too fast the air doesn't have a chance to get hot. Also, you may want to try the top vent only.

3. Turn off the A/C button.

I have a 2005 S-Type and I normally do this in the morning to warm up my hands and steering wheel and then switch to Auto mode.

 

I had no heat most of the time, but once in a while, a little heat. I found it to be the Electric Auxiliary Heating Pump. The brushes where both worn off so the springs were rubbing the armature. Long story short, I soldered in new brushes, and I now have heat again. That pump pushes the coolant through the heater core. Without the pump, you only get heat when the thermostat opens, and even then, very little.

I understand electronics, so this was an option for me, but others may need to replace the pump. Unfortunately, the pump costs almost $500. That's why I decided to rebuild instead.

for the stype with no heat.. if you live in a place where it snows.. may have a front harness issue.. happens alot here in canada..

 

no. stype, x, and 04 and up have pollen filters. the new XK and XF, and the older Xk8 you can put one in but you have to buy the mount and filter that fits onto already present threaded studs on the firewall after you remove the wipers and wiper cowl
