Default Who is cutting and programming keys?

My recently purchased XJR-R1 came with one key. My XJ8 swap is down to one. I know the other key for the XJ8 is somewhere in my house, garage or maybe dropped in the yard because I knew had it the last time I parked at home. Don't want to drive either until I have a spare. I PMed @sone and haven't heard back. The email in his Marketplace section bounced back. Anyone else doing the work?

I had one done at the Jaguar dealership in Fort Worth a few years ago. I think it was around $300 at the time.

@Sone shows to have been active just a week ago or so. I have sent the bat signal, maybe he will see it.

Check all of your local locksmiths: one or two probably has keys. They will need software to configure; most have it.

The 2002 XJ8 is the LS swap. It doesn’t have the Jag ECM or TCM anymore. Still has the BCM and all other modules. Where does the authentication for the chip in the key “live”? Wondering if I can get by with just a cut key without programming.

You could remove the column cowl to access the ignition switch.
Remove it from the lock assy and turn it ON/START independent of the lock/KTM exciter ring.

If the engine starts, then the transponder is no longer in the circuit.
No start will flag the DTC P1260 but if no ECM then???

If you have a working transponder key, you could dig the RFID pill out of the key head and implant it in the column cowl near the antenna loop.

I assume. My NAS X305 doesn't have an immobilizer and I've never owned a car with one.

I did that on my 911. On the 911 you open up the key and the pill is right there and easy to remove. On the Jag key, if you pop the plug you can see the pill. However, it seems glued in. Does not fall out with tapping or gentle proding with a dental pic. I was afraid if tried too hard would break it.

if the bpm is running the starter relay you still need a programmed key. launch will program keys if you don’t have ids, takes longer to start your tool up than to actually put the keys in.

00 and down is id13 up is id48.

Found someone to cut keys. Will have couple non-transponder keys for each car. Will tuck transponder key in steering wheel cowl near exciter ring.

I got a new key precut from Terry's Jaguar parts.

I couldn't not find any lock smith near by to program it. X308 is too old and Jaguar is not a popular brand businesswise.

ended up going to dealer paying one hour of labor. but they gave me a free car wash.

Am I the only one who would be just as happy "without" either a free or an included car wash?

Customers need to feel like they got something 'extra' when dealer hourly rate is $150 or $200.

I charged $70/hr when I worked on cars at my shop while the dealer I worked at was double that.
I had substantially lower overhead with NO carwash, 'free' Cokes and tile floors.

Customers did not complain when presented the bill and dirty car.

Default Keys

I have found blank keys on the EBay site seem to work. Some will
Cut the key to match yours without having to send your only key.
Once the key is cut, you can program it to your car without tools,

I used to work at a BMW dealership as a Service Advisor a few years ago and I was mortified when I saw the way they washed the cars. Brushes and sponges in buckets of dirty soapy water that are very infrequently changed, plastic aqua blade things to dry them off and a selection of dirty well used cloths to finish drying them. Then a quick vacuum and the interior sprayed with air freshener to give the illusion of a full valet. Then driven back to the car park like they’re in the Indy 500.

So when I had customers complaining their cars hadn’t been washed as part of their service, I used to think to myself you don’t know how lucky you are.

I only have one key for my car, but I have three blank keys stashed; two black and a green valet. It was always my intention to get them cut appropriately and programmed but I haven’t got round to it yet. I need to find how the valet keys were cut differently so I can instruct the locksmith. Whilst I’ll likely never use the valet key it would just be nice to have the complete set like the car came with.

The info is on here somewhere, but from memory the 'blade' bit right at the end of the key is about 5mm longer on a valet key so it's possibly a different blank (I've never seen a blank to know). I know if you file the end down you can turn a valet key into a normal one.

that is not all correct. you can have a key cut . YES, it can open the door but it will NOT fire up the engine with out the key transponder being programed with the TOOL.

you can never "program" the key without the tool. you can only problem the fob remote.
