Every time I roll down my driver's window in the XJR,
it makes a hideous squealing sound. On my last XJ, I
used a rag with some stuff on it to clean up the felt
and it just made the condition worse.

Any ideas? It wasn't like this when I bought it, so it
is very upsetting., none of the others do it.

have you tried polishing the glass inside and out? which seal do you think it is outer or inner?

 

Sounds like an inner, it is high-pitched and immediate
in how it comes on... sounds like it is closer to me, so
definitely inside.

Sean, how do you mean polish, I cleaned them with
Stoner Invisible Glass cleaner, they are spotless, but
I haven't used anything like a lubricant. I thought it
might streak.

 

Try silicone spray, it works well on sticky windows and stops the motors burning out.

 

remove the door panel with inner seal and outer waist seals. if it stil makes noise its the window regulator rails. put 3m silicone paste on the rails usually works but the rails guides are plastic and do break cocking the window so replace if needed
