X300 drivetrain swap in a 2000 XJ8
Hello
I own a XJ6 1995 and it is in excellent shape for mechanical side. Unfortunately here with winter and salt on roads it is rusty. I found a 2000 XJ8 with as most of this year XJ8 a broken engine but no rust.
Has someone has ever done transplanting a 6 cyl. drivetrain in place of 8. I know for EFI, it will need harness change but what more I have to do?
I know both cars have same basic body
Thanks for your help?
Jean

The entire car is different. Beginning with the front subframe, mounting points, transmission tunnel, wiring harness, ecu interfaces and co. It is a huge really really really huge job with lots of welding required. Especially just to get that engine in! The V8 is shorter and the engine bay was modified for a shorter engine...
I'd either chuck another V8 in or get another X300 with good body.
The body panels are the same but everything beneath them is different. Kind of like Rover 75 1.8T to Rover 75 V8.

I don't think so.
There is a thread on a body-swap of a member, who was able to purchase a factory-new X308 body, in which he transplanted his complete X300.
He had some issues, but all very limited.
Presume it should not be too big of an issue, as long as you know what you are in too, and which parts (besides of the engine) need to move car as well.
I can send you the PDF of this body swap in case you don't have it already.

Hi,
Many thanks for your input. I think i'll look for something else as it involved to many modifications for what it will be.
Cheers,
Jean
P.S. another 2000 with broken engine was for sale this morning, an epidemy...
