Default x308 Differential Slow Leak

Taking to a mechanic on Wednesday - just wondering how bad this looked? Don't see any drips on the garage floor.

Well, since you will have the real story on Wednesday, what are you asking?

If you want re-assurement so you can sleep until then, I would say that if there is sufficient oil in the diff case, then this is nothing to worry about on a 15 year old car. If it is low, I would fill it and see how long before it leaked down again. Fixing the axle and pinion seals are going to cost several hundred dollars each, if that is needed. Most leak a little anyway.

Thanks, pretty much just wanted to make sure it wasn't terrible. I can name a few of the moving parts on a car, so I rely on a mechanic to get everything done.

I figured it was good - but hoping it wasn't a reply like "OMG That bottom leak is the deally piston ring O cap - that's 4500 to replace!"

Anyways, off to the store for some wine...to help me sleep

looks like it's coming from the breather and the two lower bolts on the cover.

There is a breather port at the rear top of the differential (tricky to see). If it is clogged then seepage appears. The breather can be removed and cleaned. My diff stopped leaking after I cleaned mine. Don't let a mechanic tell you need new gaskets, seals, etc, just clean the breather

Yep, mechanic looked at it, wasn't tightened all the way, oil looks good. Not a drop in the garage yet!

Mine leaks...we have searched all over and couldnt pinpoint the exact location. Changed the breather valve at the top with a brand new one and changed the fluid...STILL has some seepage somewhere. Nothing that I am concerned with though.
