Default X308 side fender badges always breaking

I am on the 3rd set for me 1999 XJ8. The clips which hold them in place are made or very cheap plastic and fatigue easily over time. Has anyone come up with a more sturdy way of securing these so I don't continuously have to replace these? They are very expensive for what they are. Also, interestingly enough, the left and right appear to be mirror images, but one is priced more than the other.

I have never had issue with mine and I have owned it since 06. Do you drive yours through a car wash? How do they break?

I got rid of mine all together and installed side marker lights that flash with the turn signals. That's what those indentations in the fenders are actually for. Funny that Jaguar chose not to install them in U.S. spec X308s since the earlier and later cars had them.

I have had my car for 14 years now. I don't go through the car wash, but I think age and the Texas heat take their toll. The badge clip is made or really cheap plastic that fatigues over time.

Is there a Jaguar part from the earlier series that will fit?

If you are referring to side marker lights, yes. There are threads here on the Forum discussing adding them - Jaguar P/N is: LNA 4812 AA. These are amber colored and were standard equipment on '95-97 X305 cars I believe. You can get them at the dealer or used ones on eBay, or at the junk yard.

If you add them, you will find that the right side of the car is plug and play, the left requires running a couple of wires up to the front turn signal. I made a simple harness to make it look factory. I then ran it above the wheel well liner with some wiring the runs above there. I removed the wheel and the liner for access and so I could see what I was doing. Not a tough job, but I don't know if you are hands on or not. Cheers!

if you remove the wheel and fender liner you can see the back of the side badges. I suppose you could use glue or something to secure them from behind.

Or as others have said the side blinker conversion is nice, that's what I've done:

I used 3M bodyside molding tape. Works excellent and holds indefinitely.
