x308 Star tac Phone
My 1999 x308 Sov LWB has the factory motoroloa "jaguar" phone in the center armrest.
I placed a sim card in it, it fires up but the phone says "check SIM card" as if it were not able to read the sim and hence cannot receive or dial calls.
I opened up the phone and cleaned some areas, seemed to be clean already, thinking that it may fix the problem, but no luck still no connectivity.
I want to get the factory phone working properly, don't want Bluetooth.
Can anyone advise on how to fix this or what the usual issue is behind the sim card not being read??
best regards
Peter

Hi osyris, if you search google with jaguar forums: star tac, you will get results like these:

Do you definitely have a Motorola "Jaguar" StarTAC and not just a Motorola StarTAC?

The Jaguar model (on the left) with the Jaguar logo has bespoke software to interface with the vehicle. The standard StarTAC on the right does not.
I had one of these in my X308. Left it in the car permanently and diverted my regular phone to it when I was driving. Just as convenient as Bluetooth and that was back in 1999!
As far as I can recall, the StarTAC operates on 2G so you will need a compatible SIM.
In the UK, only Vodaphone and O2 networks would work with it. Check your network service provider is compatible.
