X308 Transmission oil & filter replacement
Hi all,
yesterday I've replaced the transmission oil and the oil filter for the ZF 5hp24 transmission that is in my Jaguar X308 2001 3.2L.
The whole process worked like a charm, except that we got out 5,5L of black, old oil and only was able to put in 4,5L of oil - even after letting motor run idle until the transmission oil reached proper temp (50 deg celsius).
As we failed to put more oil in I noticed that the car was not 100% level.
I'm wondering if the missing 1 liter of oil can be accounted for by the lack of level, or is there something else that was done wrong?
Thank you,
bf

To make it even more interesting, the ZF fact sheet about the 5HP24 mentions on page 3 an oil capacity of ~9.9 liter (10.5 quart), so why was it overflowing after 4,5L?

The torque converter does not drain, so you should do a couple more changes. It's best to start putting the plug back in at 30 C, to avoid under filling, and not having the car level could be a problem.
Tthe MIN level is 30 Centigrade. THE MAX level is 50 Centigrade.
I ALWAYS go for the MAX!!!!!!
If I'm not done filling when the temp gets OVER the 30s, I put the plug in and let it cool down and start all over again.
I don't like under-filled.

Thanks, so maybe that was my problem: I put the oil into the sun to heat it up as much as possible. But the trick is to keep oil temp at or around 30 degrees so you're able to fill in as much as possible. Will report back once I can put it on a proper lift.
How are you measuring the transmission temp? I use an infrared thermometer aimed at the oil drizzling out of the fill hole.
