X308 XJ 4.0 n/a diff ratio change
Hi there,
I know that there are quite a few threads already covering this topic, but almost exclusively for the XJR.
I am just about to rebuild the final drive of my 98' XJ 4.0 n/a (90k miles).
This gives me the option of a ratio change, since I could get a secondhand 3.27 (from a 3.2). I followed some of the threads concerning diff-ratio-change, which seems to be an issue with the s/c cars, but no problem with the n/a (ZF 5HP24).
Does anybody have personal experience? I want to avoid buying, rebuilding and installing the 3.27 just to find out that it does not work.
Thank you for your inputs
Mark

Hi there,
thanks to member Moscow Leaper!
I received a message from him that he did quite a few conversions himself without any problem.
So I'll have a go! I 'll share my experience with you, but not before May I guess, since I intend to refurbish the complete rear suspension as well.

You should be able to swap the rear end in a non supercharged car with no modification. The transmission shift points are programmed to the diff in the car so the 1-2 shift will be quicker.
