Default XJ8 cd, nav wiring.

Just got a beautiful 2000 Claret XJ8 Vanden Plas. It has the CdChanger and amplifierin trunk, no Nav unit in trunk, has CD/Nav head in dash. I got a Nav unit (with extra head) and need help on howto proceed. Is the existing wiring harness satisfactory? What additional "stuff" do I need? has sub on rear deck.

It sounds like I only have sound onthe right front speaker.May be a bad amp, head, what?

Help!

Olen

It is likely you have blown speakers.
Not sure if the gps antenna is there for the nav.

Thanksfor fast info. I have a complete set of speakers from eBay so I will check that out. I don't know how to check the amp but a may try a speaker on a stripped wire set. Just so many wires, where do you start?

How do I locate or check for a GPS antenna?

Thanks
Olen

I checked one today. The antenna will not be there for GPS.
There is alot of wires to the amp, but if you plug up the speakers and they work, you have cured problem. If you were replacing speakers anyway, it is not such a big deal. You were already going there anyway, so no time lost.

hey tech,

I started troubleshooting the sound system on the 2000 XJ8 VDP. It works only on right side.

I tried a different amplifier and no change. I believe itmay bethe head unit and I have one to try/install but don't know where to start.

How do I get the old one out? Remove the console? How is it attached? Screws, snaps, Etc?

Thanks
Olen
