I LIKE that....ALOT!!!

I don't know anything about that conversion, but I imagine there's a hoard of lights on the dash...which I'd live with if I had to.

Would that car even be allowed into the US seeing that it's less than 25 years of age?

I don't see why not, it's just another 1999 XJ8. It wasn't like it's a factory special one-off, the transmission was put in by an owner (at least that's how it reads). So unless it's due to regulations which would apply to any other model (crash testing and such), but I can't think of any reason a regular 99 XJ8 wouldn't be allowed to the states. Granted, would be cheaper just to do the same job to one here, I imagine. I really was hoping to see if they had code issues though.

This is why I asked about the car being less than 25 years of age.

True, but that applies mainly towards vehicles that were not already produced to conform to import (notably, the Skyline). If you go through the rest of the documentation, it states that there are two main concerns: Emissions, and safety. And as long as the vehicle conforms to US Standards, for both counts, there's not a big deal made about it. Stickers are under the hood and numbers match. The only hiccup I could see, would be IF there are emission codes thrown that show up at the same time, but then again, since the vehicle already meets US Safety and Emission standards, there might not be any reason for them to care anyway (just as they don't care here until you actually want it inspected - buying from a private party with a CEL, for example, perfectly fine, just have to fix it to actually get it road-legal).

Obviously it's a whole different ballgame if the car isn't already meeting the standards (I would imagine the XJ8 from overseas already would? Not sure, but just seems that they didn't make different physical versions for each market that I know of, so I imagine it's safe).

But surely you know that emissions standards are different for different countries. When cars less then 25 years old are imported, they have to meet US emissions standards before they can be registered.

And since there was never a 5speed manual X308 regardless
of market, that powertrain combination cannot have ever been
certified as being emissions compliant in any jurisdiction.

Right, I'm just saying that I figured that the UK X308s would also already meet the US standards, but I don't know for sure. Just figured that there really wasn't much difference between, so just thinking that they might've already. And as for the drivetrain configuration, that's true, but at the same time, I imagine it would just determine on how strict they are. The XJ8 isn't a notorious model for failing to be imported like other models are. And since this isn't a factory 5-speed, but rather what an owner added, I just wonder how much they would really look at the actual vehicle, vs just pulling the VIN and checking the stickers for compliance as from the factory. I haven't ever imported a vehicle firsthand (just a lot of discussions on other car forums about legal Skylines), so I don't know how stringent the process is. Just figured it might be a little more lenient for a vehicle that, "stock", is pretty common to have here anyway.

Alllll that aside, I imagine it'd probably be cheaper just to do the same swap here, than it would be to go through the process.

Who cares. I'm nearly 100% sure that you couldn't have this imported regardless of the fact that they were sold here. That's a mute point because the rule is 25 years. And FYI safety is also different. FACT: The US xk8 has a higher rear suspension because the euro xk8s lower suspension wouldn't pass rear impact standards. I've been eyeing Cerberas researching the rule.

Anyway the point is that there is a manual xj8 running and driving and now that I know its possible, I would love to know how. Someone in the UK should give this guy a call and find out how. His number is on the listing: 07946843489.

Looks like a one-off. It won't have been certified here to safety/emissions but will have to be tested annually for actual emissions (exhaust = tailpipe analysis). Not going to have any appropriate under-bonnet (under hood) stickers (we do not have them and anyway it's been modified) so good luck to anyone trying to import to USA!

OK, so how was it modified? hmm, maybe Racing Green, Paramount, TL Jaguar, or someone else. Expensive. If you have the $$$ give 'em a call.
