hi all, my name is barrie, I am located in S.Wales U.K. I have just started project to try and run motor/transmission from 1998 3.2 xj8 out of car with intentions of fitting same into another vehicle other than jaguar. the car I am dismantling is an M.O.T. failure which I acquired for a reasonable price. the biggest obvious challenge is going to be getting motor to run, I am removing all electrical systems loom by loom. once I have secured engine/trans. on a base in my garage I will attempt to identify and reconnect all electrics which I intent to mount on some sort of temporary board. if there is anyone here able to help with anything that is imperative to achieve this I will be most grateful, will try and post some photos, any way thanks for taking the time to read this, (new to this forum, please feel free to point out anything I am doing wrong)

put simply, it won't run.
You're better off finding an aftermarket ignition system. Try xkracer a member on here for info about running these engines with custom engine management.
The reason it won't run, is the can-bus, it needs handshakes from all the door locks, boot lock brake pedal, gear selector mech speedo cluster or IPK etc etc etc, you miss just one of these modules, it wont run.

Keep us posted on how this goes. What car is going to get the engine?
Be sure to not allow the engine to overheat during testing. They are
not as forgiving as a small block chevy in that regard. Aluminium
warps and cracks easily.

hi lear45, just to say I am continuing the time consuming task of dismantling the xj saving all the parts I can (related to engine/transmission or other) the thing is I need to dispose of remains as I am pushed for space. regarding the recipient of motor, I have a spare z3 that I picked up for 500gbp, it started as a simple tidy it up and sell on. one thing led to another its become a plaything. while I was researching the z3 I came across a v8 installation (not jag) and decided that's what I wanted to do. I sold my low mileage xj8 exec. last year due to not being used enough. loved that motor. i will take in any advice coming my way, the challenge at this time is to run motor regardless of where it ends up. if i fail so be it, i love doing it. as any useful progress is made i will certainly post, thank you.
