Default XJ8 on a pedestal,,,,ok,,,,ramp.

The attached stand gives access to the engine compartment.

Spreaders and hinges are key to alignment and safety.

The 2 X 4's are cut to fit both the top AND bottom of each section and fastened with 3 inch decking screws. It helps to predrill the holes.

Here pictured is the ramp I built in the garage for about $300.00 US.
I simply "park" the Xj8 on the ramp all the time.
Once the car is up on the ramp I usually access the underside from the front or back, but you can easily remove one of the 6 foot sections for side access.
It is constructed from approx. 15- 2"X12"X 6', 4- 2"X 4"X 8', 6- 2"X 2" X 8',
6- 4" stainless door hinges, 6 pounds of 3" deck screws, misc plywood strips for spreaders.
Overall length is 16 feet 10 1/2 inches. Front section is 3 feet, second 6 feet, 3rd 3 feet and ramp is 4 feet 10 1/2 inches.
A few suggestions:
1.Make sure the ramp has a cleat (fastener) to the ground at the front end so the ramp does not "walk". My garage has a step up that holds it from moving forward.
2.Spreaders are cut to accommodate the tire width (outside to outside). Different car width? Cut different spreaders. BE SURE TO USE SPREADERS.
Note the white line on the 2X2 on the passenger side. Helps see the ramp edge.

Nice idea!

Though some people might see it as tantamount to an admission that your Jaguar is not very reliable, parking it permanently on ramps

Yes, Mark. I should have referred to the ramps as our infrequently used but always available "dealer alternative" :-)

I am glad to see this. I've been considering this for sometime now. Your ideas have given me incentive to go ahead and build one. Thanks for the pics.

My pleasure! Also, if you decide to construct these and don't want to keep them in place, simply ( per side) stack the two three foot pieces on top of the six footer and the
angled ramp on top of those. Thanks for your interest and good luck.
