can anyone provide me with a picture or diagram of where the starter is located on a 2000 xj8 and how to access it please help car wont start changed battery etc.

The Starter is on the passenger under the engine passenger side. Make sure the battery is disconnected prior to replacing starter.

Check for 12 Volts at the locations noted below. Someone will have to work the key for you.
Before you start on the starter make sure you are getting 12 volts to the starter cable that is located on the passenger side under the (Bonnet) hood attached to a bulkhead bolt that is near the hood latch/lock. Then check for 12 Volts getting to the starter.

Try everything you can before replacing- it requires contortion of the highest degree.
