A quart (or liter) every 1200 miles is a bit much... back in the old days, I'd say 'oil is cheap' and not worry about it. But now with the Jag, I'd be mildly concerned.

I use about the same over 1000 miles. The car had non-synthetic oil in it when I bought it, and I ran it for 7000 miles before changing to synthetic. I did notice it seems to use more oil once I switched to the same Mobil as you are using.....

Are your cam cover gaskets leaking ?? You can lose oil out of them and there's no puddles of oil on the floor, because the oil burns off on the exhaust :-)

Wink Oil Use

My car will drop down to a half quart low after a few hundred miles. If I keep topping it up it will keep burning it off. If I leave it alone it will stay at a half a quart down. So, I leave it alone. Otherwise, I'd be going through a lot of oil. Others may disagree, but I don't add until it gets down to the 'add' line.

I have found exactly the same thing. The engien returns to half a quart low shortly after topping it off but it never drops below that. If I leave it alone it is fine. I have an '01 SC engine

Same here--it's a losing battle to keep the oil level exactly at the full mark, but the level becomes very stable if I leave it somewhat below full.
