XJR A/C Filter/Filter
#3
The only filter in an a/c system is the receiver/drier which is a container about the size of a soft drinks can that contains dessicant. The gas flows through the dessicant and any moisture is removed from the gas. Dealerships will want to change the receiver/drier at regular intervals but it's just to make money out of you. If you have a good a/c guy he will pull a vacuum on the system for about half an hour and the heat generated by the vacuum will remove the moisture thereby giving dry dessicant once again and your system will be clean and dry. Only after pulling a vacuum can the system be regassed otherwise you will put gas into a dirty and wet system which is not good.
So don't use the 'top up' cans that you can buy from stores as you don't know the condition of your a/c system or indeed how much gas is already in it. If you over pressure the system you could blow the compressor seals and that will cost you plenty.
