Default XJR mesh grille hardware

I saw an old post on this and thought I would provide some additional info in case someone else is looking it up, rather than necromancing that old thread.

Noticed my new to me 2000 XJR had one grille screw missing and the other three just spinning and not actually tight. That's when I looked up the part numbers in the catalog and realized I'm missing all four retaining clips (HNA5506AB). Those are already on their way. I also will need at least one of the screws (AD606031), but I rather replace all four so they're all the same new shiny stainless steel color. They look like fairly standard stainless hardware and didn't think it's worth ordering from the dealer. I did not find the exact specifications of the screw anywhere on the web or in that old thread. So I measured them and here is what I found in case anyone is interested...

Stainless steel Oval head sheet metal screw
#6 x 3/8"

I personally like McMaster Carr for hardware since they have the most selection and give you every last detail on the hardware which helped me compare it to the one I had. I will be going with the 316 stainless for added corrosion resistance.
McMaster part number 95639A322.

Good luck to my new Jag friends

I found the same spec screws with free shipping within US at fastenere.com.

I found the screws at Ace hardware; no waiting a couple of days on shipping. McMaster Carr is a good source for lots of stuff and they're about 100 miles west of me, so if I order by noon, the stuff is here the next day.

That's awesome your local ace has them! Normally they are my first stop for hardware also. In fact, I was there for my license plate light cover screws, which they did not have. I find my local one doesn't have as much selection especially with less common hardware like oval head

I must be going crazy. I have all the parts I thought I needed, but these HNA5506AB insert clips do not make any sense for the 2000 XJR mesh grille.

I even put my vin in to be sure and asked the parts guy to confirm but he didn't follow up and sent them.

Is it possible my car has the wrong bezel? It is paint matched and appears original to the car. The screws are loose in the tabs that are there, so I thought the catalogue was right and there are clips which are missing. If the answer is, those tabs are all that's required and they're just worn, I will try some plastic epoxy or weld to repair them.

Photos below of everything I have. If anyone can help me figure out what's correct and not would be helpful.

Thanks.

I believe those parts either go inside here or on the bottom of your grill?? I seem to recall seeing those go on the earlier X300’s though.

Thank you, I think you're right about the clips being for the x300. They definitely do not go on my car. The two bottom tabs on the mesh grille I have go into those slots just fine. Based on what I see in the sng catalog, I thought there were clips for the screws on top to go into, but I don't think there is. The screw just go into the 4 plastic tabs on top of the outer bezel. The holes were just worn on mine. I epoxyed them over night. They should hold much better now once I drill the holes back out.

Now I just have to deal with returning $90 clips I have no use for. I did ask for confirmation from their sales who reached out to me and didn't get it. I even provided the Vin they requested.

The epoxy worked perfect to get my screws to hold tight. Thanks again for the help. She's looking beautiful once again.

Glad you got it looking good again. These days, the salesmen don't really seem to
be as knowledgeable as ones from days gone past. For any parts ordered for the
Duchess, I have found asking for pictures is the only way to verify what I am ordering.

Thanks Randy, that's a good tip. I think my issue was the sales staff and more so my lack of knowledge. I'm only a few weeks into being a jag owner. Parts on these old cats are not always as straight forward as my Subaru's. Didn't help I was going based off a catalog which was not exactly accurate. I could have done some more digging on that part number to find an image. That could have made it more obvious it wasn't going to work for my car.
