Default XJR needs help on emission readiness

Hello guys, my 1998 XJR failed emission test because "The emission readiness test wasn't completed". I scanned the OBD and found P1000, which means the readiness test has not been completed. I've been driving the car for a couple of days and the check engine light's still on. what should i do to complete the test? I really need your help on this!!!! thx

Something does not quite add up- P1000 does not turn on the CEL. So, what does not add up is that you say you have the light and no code besides P1000.
What happens is, when you reset the codes, P1111 changes to P1000 until the OBD drive cycle completes, to test whether the car has emmision issues or not. That is so simply resetting the codes will not make the car appear OK when tested. If the car cannot complete the drive cycle, then the P1000 will not change back to P1111. You need to figure out what drive cycle test is not complete, Scanners that read "OBDII mode 6" tell which tests are complete and which are not. However, again, I do not believe P1000 should light the CEL by itself.

edit by JagV8: you do not need mode 6 to see which monitors have set (completed) - any half-way decent generic OBD tool will do

there's also a p1230 code for fuel pump relay, I've assumed it's got nothing to do with emission issues, since pump # 2 took over it. other than that there's no other code.

Yup, the DTC table in the JTIS says it'll trip the CEL after two consecutive key turns. CEL won't get your inspection passed, unfortunately. Looks like your chasing the P1230 code for that relay until its fixed.

Ahh- The whole story!
And I am pretty sure the second pump is not exactly a spare. I would be scared of leaning the engine without it.

One of the few privileges of owning an R, a second fuel pump so you can go faster than us normally aspirated folk
