Default XJR (x308) with big Brembo XKR breaks?

Hello
is it possible to fit the calipers and discs from an 2005 XKR on my XJR?
Maybe somebody has done this?
Regards form Munich!

Default Why?

Yes Maxi it's possible, but why, there is only a small performance difference and the cost to re-disc and pad the Brembo's is super expensive. Have you money to burn?

I have used both standard and Brembo equipped XJR's. My 100 came with Brembo's standard, they decay, the powdercoat falls off, not good for the price.

I now use Alcon brakes. They are far far better than Brembo, the 2010 XKR-S is fitted with them.
6 pot monobloc and 4 pot monobloc, 21st century brake technology against 20th. Lighter and stiffer. And I still get to use Jaguar OEM pads with bells and rotors. My car will now outbrake any XJR.

It's very possible. I did exactly that; I put 05 XKR Brembos on my 99 XJR.

Alcon brakes are not as available as Brembos and probably more expensive. I did my conversion for about $700. I got a good deal on the calipers, rotors, and pads from a junk yard.

Steve, what are your impressions on the conversion? Can't argue with the price you got a set for - I'd do that conversion all day long for that money.

Just a thought, the post 07 Dodge Viper is fitted with Alcon monoblocs.

I suppose they're better than the standard brakes. Didn't do any before and after testing. Yeah, I would say they're better. It's been a while and can't really remember the difference.

When I first put the Brembos on, they were terrible because the rotors and pads were used and it took a while for the rotors and pads to wear in to one another again. So I didn't have a clear comparison in the beginning.

Default Alcon costs???

SeanB...

Just wondering how much the Alcon conversion set you back (as i'm sure are many others).
How easy were they to fit and what (if any) back plate modifications/custom fabrications were required?
And finally, how much are new pads and rotors for your beast?

Many thanks

Alex

Alex there was a bit of luck on my part, I bought front and rear axles from a scrapyard in Hereford, they came with the 4 pot Alcon rears and dics/bells. I cleaned these up (like new, low miles) The axles came of an MoD car, when I requested pads off Alcon, they asked for part numbers, then said they'd signed the official secrets act, done 8 car conversions, and put the phone down on me!

Talked to the scrapper and he said he had 24 hours to get as much off the car then MoD guys would collect to despose of. They're bomb proof.......Mine had been in the middle east since new with under 20k miles on it, the axles had never seen rain. Probably shunting Jack Straw round Baghdad.
