YES!! another trans Question
On the way home from work today after slowing to a stop the trans would wait for a down shift then jerk as it went into first, it seems to shift very strong with no slipping. Then at my next stop it would not shift down into first and I had to slowly move away in what I think was second or third. When I got home there was a transmission fault reading on the dash.I turned the car off then restarted, the fault went away and my first gear came back.I was wondering if the computer re flash will also help this problem.

My certified Jaguar mechanic who works at my Jaguar dealer told me when I was in for service the other day getting an oil service that I needed a Transmission service $289.95 done asap. The reason he gave me was he has seen a lot of transmissions go out because some owners would opt out of the service and wait too long to have it done until it was too late. I guess it's as good as an oil change on a Jag. He has been a Jag Mech for over 20 years and worked in England for a while early in his career. If he say's do it I'll be making my appointment soon to have it done. Good luck, I wish I had better news.

Unusual! To have a dealer technician propose a ATF change is a first although I personally believe that it should be done by 60k miles. Jaguar has marketed this transmission as 'sealed for life' and some dealers have been reported to even decline to change the ATF. Also, the ESSO 71141 spec ATF at a dealer is about $50 per liter and it takes about 6. I would have to know what the 'service' is for $290.
If they are really using the ESSO ATF and a Jaguar filter and dealer labor that is a new record pricc.
Business must be really bad.

The fact that are only going to drain and refill about 5-6 quarts makes that more believable. Especially since the ESSO couldn't cost them more than the $16 (probably much less) the VW dealers charge for it.
You also mention 'flush'. It would be great to have a clarification on what they means. Only flush on the ZF transmissions I have heard about were in Germany.
I would get the filter changed at the same time. That will involve removing the transmission pan and a corresponding increase in price.
Local indy labor $100, 6 qt Castrol Import ATF $30, filter $30. Come to the Georgia mountains.

Hey!! nobody answered my question. I have serviced the trans but I was asking about a reflash of the transmission computer.Do I have to take the car in or can I just take in the computer. I have seen computers for my car on e-bay for as low as $70.00, if I got one out of another jag like mine, would it already be flashed to were I just plug in and go.I really need some answers.
Thanks
