Default Youngest Owner

Ever since buying my 1997 XJ8 Sovereign 4.0 my friends have all had the joke of 'your bringing the average age of jaaag owners down' or 'old man's car', I say to them I don't care as it's such a nice car to drive, but it does make me think about the average age of x308 owners. I don't mean clapped out farm use only ect I mean every day driver. I would think I'm at the younger end of the scale at only just turned 24 when I brought her now pressing on 25 but I wouldn't say I'm the youngest but I've always wondered if there were people my age who looked at these cars and seriously thought of buying one.

I got my Jaguar 10 years ago when I was 16. I might have the record for being the youngest. Haha. It was only four years old at the time, and most people thought I bought a $70k Vanden Plas new (since the X308 was discontinued around the time I got mine) or that it was my parent's car. Little did they know about Jaguar's depreciation. It cost around the price of a loaded Honda Accord, yet my car turned many more heads, was talked about (positively) much more than comparably priced cars at the time. Many more "oohhs and aahs" than any BMW 3-series or Mercedes C-class could garner. People still love this car. I imagine if I had a 2000 BMW 3-series or C-class today, many of my friends would consider it to be junk regardless of condition.

Ok now not actually an X308, plus I'm by no means young any more, but I did own an XJC when I was 19 (that was my first Jaguar) and I think I was about 24 when I bought my second XJC?

Hell, I was 28 when I bought my XJR and people thought I was really young to have a Jag. I still get odd looks when I get out of my car, like people are still thinking I'm driving my parents car, even though I'm a grown man. And as you said, people still think I'm rolling in money because I drive a Jag, even though I only have about $9k in the car total, even with all the mods. I can't imagine having one at 16

I am 27 now, but bought my 2001 XJ8 Sovereign when I was 22. Best car I have ever driven, and I have driven Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Skoda, Volvo, Rover, MG, Ford, Land Rover and Ford. I have driven other Jaguars too, but none of them have that unique feeling the X308 gives the driver.

I had quite a few envious classmates in high school who were driving much more expensive cars than mine. I knew people with a brand new Mercedes ML320 (2x the price of my car), Infiniti G35 coupe, and even a kid who alternated between driving his dad's brand new Mercedes S500 and Porsche Cayenne to school (each about 4x the price of my car!), yet they all considered my car to be way too 'high end' for a 16 year old. Many of my teachers and coaches knew my car. It was pretty crazy that a used sub $25k car in good shape (with paper tags, it must be new right?) could have such an impact. It was pretty cool to go to homecoming dance and have valet park my car up front. Those who knew very little about cars assumed my VDP to be "just a step below a new Bentley?" Price wise, it was a staircase below a new Bentley Arnage.

Surprisingly, the old girl got parked up front by valet at a high end restaurant next to a Mercedes CL and BMW M5 not too long ago. A X308 in good shape has aged well and hasn't lost much of its prestige unlike its rivals made in the same era.

I bought my XJR at the age of 40, my first car was a 1983 Peugeot 305 from 1992 to 2003 the second was a 1990 BMW 735IA from 2003 to 2013. First time when i was in love was in 1998 at the age of 24 I drive an XJ8 when i was in Lebanon so to be young and love Jaguar especial XJ models is not unusual in my opinion.
Is not modern and fancy like Audi on interior, she do not look sporty like BMW is not oldish like Mercedes it is a Jaguar more conservator then other brands a lot of wood and leather (a friend of mine told me one time that this car is made by a carpenter because have a lot of wood trim inside)

Probably an "old man" here (hitting 50 this year), but simply never had the opportunity to buy a (semi) classic car in the countries I lived in.

With our planned return to Taiwan, the X308 was the almost first thing to buy.
Like buying a TV set in a empty apartment, chairs can wait

I actually save a lot of money on selling my old car, guess will put that in the maintenance fund for a while...

My '99 XJR was the first car I ever bought. I bought it when I was 18. The guy I bought it from was a very good friend of the family's. I always admired his Jag and all through high school and first year of college I saved up for a car like his. After selling my first car, which was an Oldsmobile, the guy listed his Jag for sale. I had enough saved up, so I took it for a test drive. Fell in love with it. Bought it and filled out the paperwork the next day. 6 months later and it still excites me to turn the key on.

I'm sure I wasn't the youngest owner even when I bought my first Jag in 1992...

I had an 87 XJ6 when I was 16. Bought my XJR when I was 27 or 28. I'm 29 now. I've always enjoyed the Jaguar brand.

I got my XJR at 29, people always say I am too young for my car. **** on them, I love to drive it and the best is when you get dirty looks from people in minivans. I have had the car for almost 2 years and plan on many more.

there is some truth to it... the car is not cheap and is not easily affordable to younger crowd. It is very difficult to compete with Honda civic owner's average age.

On the other hand, since I got mine I feel a few years younger!

Also, it is entertaining to showcase how quick XJ8 is when everyone expects it to behave like an "old grandpa's car".

I bought my 1st JAG at age 38. It was a 01 Carnival Red XJR 52k. I owned it for 2 WEEKS. Lost it in the Floods of 2009. I turned around an bought another one a month later 03 XJR R1 Black w/ tan interior and just recently bought another Jaguar. This time a 01 Vanden Plas Supercharged (White w/Ivory interior) 105k to go with the 03. Currently doing some some work on the VDP SC.
I love my XJR & VDP SC. They exude Class, Style, Grace, Elegance and Understatement. I love when I see an elderly person driving one. They look so classy and stylish!

Purchased my first Jaguar, a 1985 Jaguar V12 Vanden Plas, when I was 19. I'm 24 now and on my third, a 2001 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas.

I too got my jag at age 16, or one year ago. Since I'm from a small city near the Chicago area, people act like my xjr is a supercar whenever they see it. It's a nice feeling being the envy of your friends
