Default 1989 xj6 brake issues

Bought this 1989 xj6 6 years ago and am loving it though brakes have always been a hard push. Previous owner had replaced the original Jag system with the more normal power brake vacuum booster unit. My mechanic friend feels that the hook-up to the intake manifold is not creating enough vacuum to provide effective power braking. If this would be the case, would the answer be to install an add-on electric vacuum pump and eliminate the manifold hook-up. Would appreciate any help I could get on this. I'm getting too old to press these brakes that hard!
Thanks…

I had my brake system converted about ten years ago and there has never been a need for additional equipment other than the vacuum booster and plate interface. I didn't do the work myself at the time, but I did buy all of the components for the mechanic and I do know I did not buy an add-in electric pump.

Search the XJ40 archives. IIRC, someone did a pictorial post within the past two to three years of they're conversion.

Thanks for the reply regarding my hard pedal brakes. Possibly who ever did the conversion did not plumb the intake manifold correctly--the one thing I now can think of.
Again, thanks..
