I had the same warning light come on. It turned out to be the Transmission Control Module . It had gotten flooded (long story). The Jaguar service place replaced it with a used one and it has run fine ever since.

 

Can I just move the rotary switch a little one way or another?

 

I have a Jaguar 4 speed manual transmission with Over Drive for Sale.
The 4.2 needs a bell housing, clutch and fly wheel to bolt this trans.
Will have to hang a hydraulic clutch petal.
Then you'd have a "stick XJ6"

I know its late making an a suggestion so I will simply ask what did you eventually do to solve the problem,,,, other than spending hundreds of $$$$$$$$ on a jag mechanic ?

It's really annoying, when someone joins this forum, for a specific problem, gets the help, to solve it. Then cannot be bothered to write in with the conclusion.......Roger.

From time to time since joining this forum I've even wondered about a few guys who were pretty serious about posting and offering suggestions and then seemed to disappear. Of course, I also disappeared for a couple of months after selling my car and then buying another, and then buying my old car back again. (That's a long story in itself...) But when I did, I said goodbye, and then said hello again. I wonder what happened to the others...

I've been a member of an audiophile-type site for many years and I once had a guy do a raffle, which I won, and he never sent the prize.

It really bothered me but I was reticent to complain because that is never received well. I later found out that the guy was in a horrible car accident and barely survived. I'm glad I didn't flame him on the forum.

Life is fun, but occasionally it interrupts our plans. I hope the OP is ok, and I hope he posts what happened because I suspect my TPS causing this condition and I'd like to know.

Not the case here, though. After this, sick 620, put the car up for sale, for $3000.00......Roger.

 

It is obviously a bit late for me to make a recommendation as Roger says, "he has sold the car" however, can I urge all XJ40 1990-94 lovers (sic) to vigoursly clean the external part of the red/pink coloured throttle pentiometer. Owners will find this small red part if they look at the oil filter top. It is not easy to clean so typical Jaguar owner patience is absolute. But clean it is a must to dispel "limp home modes, check engine lights and even auto trans "hitches".

Agree , this is why i have mostly stooped giving advice on this and other forums , after a while you get tired of the lack of gratitude but i sometimes still can't resist giving a helping hand , regarding the limp home issue , take a look at service bulletin no 44-24 which deals with this particular problem , it says water can enter the transmission control module through various places and trigger the limp mode ,
