1993 xj6 smoking
My 1993 XJ6 is Smoking from either the exhaust header, looks
like from under the chrome cover or where the headers &
pipes are bolted together, It is as if there is oil on the
pipe burning off, But I cleaned the whole area beforehand
and I don't see any kind of discharge when its running, As
the car gets up to normal operating temp, it starts smoking
from that area. The oil has been changed & is still clean
looking,Also, Not losing any antifreeze. Basically, I don't
see any kind of leakage, Just smoking, Grey smoke.

It sounds like Lumppy thinks you may have an exhaust leak, but your description other than the color being gray sounds like something I remember seeing some time ago where it was oil burning. There was a difference in smell (oil not gas) and the smoke was bluish. As I remember, it looked like it came from the chrome cover, got noticeably worse as the engine warmed up and put a lot of smoke out (almost like the engine was on fire) but then decreased after it got good and hot, but you could still smell burned oil aroma. However, you did not see a noticeable drop in oil level. Just wondered if you had the same situation?

Actually, I degreased the whole area & started the car and watched until it started to smoke, Looks like it is coming from the pipe just below the catylists, Since I cleaned it the smoke comes up immediately, Before, It took a few minutes, Must have had some clogage in the holes that opened up when warm or now when cleaned, Definitely seems like exhaust smoke, I am working on it this weekend & will update.
Thanks
