Anyone know what causes the clock light from not working? I purchased another one and R&R it and it did the same ie: at night it does not light up when you push the light button. Clock works fine as do the light switches for overhead lights. We are speaking the light bar above the stereo.

Daylight saving time?

Neither of mine have ever lit very well. Sometimes they do and most times they don't.

Even after having most of the center dash out for radio replacement etc, I still have the same problem.

I think you will find it is a fairly common XJ fault accross all models, from some of the posts I have read.

Not very helpful I know, but you will soon forget that you even have a clock there, at night.

 

I believe it is possible to dismantle these clocks and fix the light. Its fiddly though and I think a very small soldering iron is needed for the repair.
