Default 92 XJ40 Starting problems

Hi All,
92 XJ40 with periodic starting problems. This has just started happening. New battery several months ago. The engine will not turn over when the ignition is turned on. I can hear relays going off near the glove box and the solenoid is clicking. This happens and for some reason it start after a period of time. Its good for another 10 or so starts and and then the same thing. Checked the battery and its charged. things are tight on the starter connections. Possibly a relay? Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian

At the back of the intake manifold, just above the heater hose to the cylinder head and just in front of the wiper motor, is a round black wiring connector with a single white wire in it. The connector is positioned vertically, and is tywrapped to a section of the wiring harness at the factory. That white wire is the feed to the starter solenoid from the starter relay. If there is anything wrong with the starter circuit, you won't have power to that lead in the crank position. If the car fails to crank and you jump that lead to positive, the starter will crank if the solenoid is working. That's the first and easiest place to test to determine which side of the circuit the fault is on.

Much appreciated. I spent three hours one night helping a guy get his '93 started after he promised some gratuity for anyone who could solve his problem. By post #41, he finally replaced the fuse I had told him about in post #11 and his car started. Haven't heard from him since.

If you keep me in mind when the need arises for parts, particulary good used items, that will be fair trade. That's what I practice.
