Default "Brake" light comes on when applying brakes

92 xj40. "Brake" light comes on when applying brakes. Could the low pad sensor be causing this or is it possible that it is something more severe. If I recall correctly the brake sensor circuit remain "open" when the pads are low and would cause the light to remain on instead of only when applying pressure. All advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers mate. If you depress the VCM button on the trip computer panel at the same time the brake light is being illuminated with your foot, you will see a warning come up on the dash where your odometer mileage normally appears. It will probably say "PAD", which means that either the front or rear warning sensor is worn out (there's only one on each end of the car). Sometimes the sensors are broken, mangled or just need the connectors cleaned.

Have a look at your pads and you'll probably see the fault.

If the warning says "FAIL", that will be another chapter in the book. Let me know what your dash reads.

Bingo Jagtechohio! The odometer reads "pad" . Will I need to replace the sensor also?
Thank you,
Brian
