Default can a 90 4.0 I6 handle boost?

i have a paxton SN-93 supercharge sitting around. i have a 1990 xj6 soverign. i was wondering if the inline 6 4.0 can handle any type of boost stock? not looking for a race car. But the extra "bling" form the intercooler and supercharger would surely get me more awards at shows. Cars 100% stock. just looking for somethign to turn heads rather then "oh, just another jag".

I was overtaken by a modified Sovereign XJ40 last week. You should of seen its exhaust types yet I aint a fan of those kinda of things .Anyway, I think your car can handle but how would you fit those supercharging systems ? I mean we tried to put a supercharger (XJR's ) into our X300 .Boy , they said XJR was all different and it required a big change .They said we needed a XJR tranny, XJR PCM, XJR engine and the list went on . Mind XJR is a Jaguar model not a Mosselman kit for mercs we tried to apply
I mean you better don't think of such a mod unless you can spend a few grands on your car but it's for sure it's not worth

well i can easily do some welding to add my paxton bracket to a existing one and just find a bigger belt to run on it. but i dont wanna put boost on this engine if it cant handle it.

No disrespect, because it sounds like what I would do, but maybe a source a bit more credible than someone with just one post?

For the money it would cost to modify the old girl, you could go out and buy a 95-97 supercharged Jag. Parts would be much easier to locate and finding someone to perform service would be no where near as difficult because the car would be the way the Jaguar gods intended it.

Sounds like good advice from Ken@ as usual.....although, unless you seriously love your car and wanna tweak it and keep it for a longgg time...lol
Always a possibility

Given the complexity of the XJ's engine, I would be very cautious, at the very least you would INHO need a fresh engine with no wear, and a lot of money and time...mostly money, before even considering this option. We installed a turbo on a 1989 Buick regal FWD and like the Jaguar there are no aftermarket parts for this type of modification so everthing was hand fabricated and one off. We had no research department to tell us how this would affect te car's design limits and everything was expensive, time consuming, and a lot more money than buying say a LotusBi Turbo. Unlikesay a Mustang, where aftermarket parts abound, are cheap, and easily installed, Jags are rather rare and no one makes much if anything in the way of performance options for the 4.0. I'd tend to leave the Jag as is... but that's only experience talking.

Now all that being said... Our old Buickruns strong, after some tweaking, it brokeseveral front drive axle componentsbeforeswitching to more robustcustom built axle units, (think 4x4). Added a lowNOS at around a 25hp shot, and you have on hell of a sleeper. Life expectancy of the old 2.8 at 240hp and 280 ft lbs torque?? 0-200,000 miles ... there's no data available, but she does go kinda fast right now.
