Center Console Panic Button Schematic
I'm looking to wire in an aftermarket remote in my '88 VDP to open and close the doors. It also has a feature to close the windows. I was wondering if I could wire this into the panic button feature that already exists on these cars. I can't find a schematic showing the wiring diagram for the panic button feature. I assume it's somehow wired into the power window and door lock systems but it doesn't show up on any of the schematics for those circuits,or am I missing something?
Is the panic button you describe the central locking button on the center console? If so, it is shown on the Central Locking schematic on pdf page 35 of the '88 Electrical Guide, which you can download here:
1988 Jaguar XJ40 Electrical Guide
It appears the central locking switch works by connecting pin LB13-33 of the CPU to ignition switched ground number 10, which passes through the ignition switch and connects to ground at point LGB75, which is on the firewall/bulkhead behind the left blower air duct (see pdf pages 10 & 11). The lock/unlock toggle is apparently a function of an internal circuit in the CPU.
If you are describing a panic button on the remote key fob, to my knowledge the factory remotes had only one button that toggled the system locked or unlocked with each press.
If I've overlooked something please refresh my memory!
Cheers,
Don
My '90 XJ40 has a Jaguar Alarm which has a single button key fob...... BUT wow, can you do a lot of things with that one button.
1. Press once while car is open. Car doors lock. Alarm turns on.
2. Press and HOLD immediately after 1. Global closure of windows and sunroof
3. Press immediately after 1. (and don't hold) Follow me home headlights for 60 seconds.
4. Press once while locked. Car unlocks
5. Press immediately after 4. Trunk opens.
6. Press 3 times quickly. Panic Alarm (which is really loud)
I am pretty sure it does global open by doing short press then press and hold from locked.... I'll check tonight
Anyway, based on that it should be possible to do all of these things with an aftermarket alarm, as long as the alarm has the correct outputs

I just picked up a cheap unit,no alarm. All it's supposed to do is lock and unlock the doors and the trunk, and roll up the windows. It's also supposed to flash the lights to help locate the car in a parking lot.
