Default Clicking Noise

You may or may not remember I just purchased my first Jaguar, a 1992 XJ-6 and had to replace the fuel pump (separate thread).

Well that issue is fixed and I have put some miles on the car now. I've notice that there appears to be a rhythmic clicking noise; CLICK 1, 2, 3, CLICK 1, 2, 3, CLICK 1, 2, 3 coming from the vicinity of the driver controls (Speedo, light pod, under dash) somewhere from in front of the driver and it appears to be electrical related.

Anyone else ever experienced something like this? Is there a problem? Or is this one of those "Quirks" that make a Jag a Jag?

Thanks

When you hear the noise, open the hood and see if it is coming from the solenoid valve block, passenger's front corner of the engine bay. A faulty pressure relief valve in the valve block makes a loud thump thump thump, and it gets transmitted through the hydraulic system via the power brake assist servo to the brake pedal. You hear and feel it inside the car, but that's not where it is coming from. Of course you could be hearing something else entirely different, but whatever it is, it's not a normal event.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Also I meant to mention in the post that I hear a different clicking noise whenever I press on the brake pedal and occasionally the brake light (BRAKE in red letters/lights) illuminates on the dash cluster when the brake pedal is depressed.

Not sure if it's related to the other clicking I hear or if it confirms what you just told me or if it's totally unrelated.

Thanks

Wait a minute, my bad. The solenoid valve block could be making a thump in your car, but you won't feel it like I described on a '92...that's 88-89 only.

Turns out clicking noise was some loose items under the dash. I got up under the dash this weekend because a plastic piece the directs air to the foot area had come loose and fell on my feet while I was driving.

While I was be a contortionist I decided I might as well give everything I could reach a turn of the wrench or screwdriver. Since then no clicking noise. Not sure exactly what was making the nose, but it's gone.
