There's a clunking/rattling noise coming from the rear of the car. I've tried to look for the problem with the parked car, but it was fruitless. As I'm driving, it seems to be coming from the center of the car. I first speculated it was maybe an unbalanced tire or something, but the noise doesn't seem to be focused on either sides, but the center. Also, the noise isn't always audible, only when let go completely of the accelerator. If I accelerate, or on the accelerator to maintain speed, there's no noise. Only when I let go of the accelerator, regardless if I'm braking or not.

I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with the obvious things first like emptying out the trunk and checking the battery tie-downs. If that doesn't work, then inspect the differential area for any evidence of a cable rubbing against the driveshaft or any other movable part.

Inspect the u-joints for tightness or wear as this is probably the next easiest thing to fix.

Fill the gas tank and try to induce the noise. There may be a part inside the gas tank that is causing the noise.

Check both wheel nuts to make they are properly tightened. May not be what's causing the noise but you want to reduce the possible variables.

Inspect the various suspension and differential bushings for wear as well as the bolts for tightness.

If all else fails, have it checked out by a Jaguar trained technician.

Also, check the upper shock bushings. It's very common for these to deteriorate. If allowed to go too long, the upper shock stem can actually ruin the top plate that holds the spring.
