I have read how the shoulder belts on cars with automatic seat belts tend to act up, well, this is kind of a plot twist: I'm having trouble with the lap belt on the driver side. Back in August of 2015, I was trying to pull it out, and then it jammed, wouldn't come out, wouldn't go back in, and it was only out a little bit, and I was already having an awful day, so I yanked the belt out all the way. Still wouldn't go back in, and to this day it won't go back in. I'm a do-it-yourself type of person and I am clueless on how to correct this issue. Any suggestions?
This is supposed to be a Classy car! But they get these Stupid embarrassing problems! Oy. Have you have shined a light down it to see if a quarter -or a stray screw- fell down in there to block the mechanism up? I would try taking the whole reel out and inspect it at a more reasonable height. Of course once you have it out it can more easily become spare parts (get another). Good luck.
I shined a light into the opening on the tan plastic cover. Didn't see anything, but that doesn't mean that something isn't there. I wasn't able to get it off, and I have tried multiple times. There are two screws that appear to be holding it on. Would the seat have to come off to get to it (tight fit)?
Alas, I lack that particular experience. I would expect that seat removal would simplify it a lot, however the seat can be a huge project in itself unless you have a pristine rust free car. Seems to me i recall a large phosphored torx head directly below the reel. (could be a different car im thinking of). I will go out and have a look at mine and return later with my findings.
All right. That was definitely a different car i was thinking of.... The Belt reel is attached to the seat on my 92. This seems a bit unsafe but what do I know? With this in mind it seems removing the seat must be The Way to repair. Sorry I couldnt be more help. Good luck
Good news! I managed to pull off this small back cover that's parallel to the back of the seat and found the gearing for the belt mechanism. I just rewound the belt in and it's been fine since! Doesn't detract, but it's just right so that it's not extremely loose but not so tight that it hurts. Will be going for a more permanent fix later, but for now, this will do
