Early 93MY no crank and no dash light activity
Hello all
Just today I finally managed to pick up a 1993 XJ6 that I bought last fall. While trying to get the car ready to load on a flatbed hauler I noticed the following problems.
1. Locked in park
2. Except for the back light on the odometer, zero lights on the dash when the key is turned to the on or start positions
3. No crank
To get it out of park so it could be pulled on and off the car hauler I jacked the car up and loosened the shift cable on the transmission so I could move the actual shift lever on the side of the transmission into neutral.
I had tried stepping strongly on the brake pedal while the car was connected to 12V power and the ignition was switched to on in an effort to unlock the transmission but this has zero effect.
We used a known good quality jump box to put power into the positive and negative battery cables in the trunk. Last fall I had tried a questionable battery with the same results.
Right now it's my theory that all three of these problems are interrelated somehow but I would like to hear the opinions of other knowledgeable folks here. In other words I think some major electrical issue is preventing 12V power from reaching all of the proper circuits thus causing all three of the symptoms listed above.
Thanks in advance

1st suspect is the L/H fuse block. Solder joint failures and essentially unrepairable at home without a full EE's bench of industrial soldering equipment. Even worse than individual circuits going out is the power in stud from the 1/0 on the firewall to the fuse block circuit board coming unsoldered and randomly stranding you anywhere, anytime. 93 is one year only, 94 does not work. There's 1 used on ebay US and there's an outfit in UK that has 1 used right now.
Shifter lock solenoid is a separate, known issue. Use the ignition key to stab the invisible round button on the shifter base temporarily while you trouble shoot the whole circuit. Power for shift lock solenoid is center fuse block in console.
You're gonna need the 93 XJ6 Electrical pdf to troubleshoot, readily available for download. Feel free to ask follow up Q's. Ric.
