Default She got no power

Went for a ride. Stopped at my daughters said hi picked up my wife went to dinner. Got in started it up drove home the long way. Was getting dusk so the lights came on. The indicator on the dash that says your lights are on and some other dash light where flashing lightly. Almost not noticeable. Got home shut her down and everything was dead. Clicking noise and a red light on the shifter surround was flashing. She won't even turn over.

How old is your battery? For electrical issues, always start there....

Brand new last year cause I was having similar problems. Charging system check out fine. Checked every ground connection I could find and the positive box in the trunk. Been going through these similar problems for over a year now. One time a month ago I went to Dunkin a Donuts to get a coffee,I figured I'd leave it running while I went in. When I opened the driver door it shut off. Every time this crap happened I do a hard reset and she starts right up.

The flashing light on the shifter shroud I will assume is the security light. Do you have a remote or a second key to see it will unlock the car? From what you are saying I believing that your car does not identify the key and it could be one of two things the key chip or the exciter ring at the key lock either one failing would prevent the car from starting. What is puzzling is that it shut down when you opened the door not sure what to think about that. First try another key or the remote for the car.

I don't use the remote. I never lock the car. I would agree about the key but it starts then when I shut it off it won't start again. Not even turn over plus the clicking and security light. When I do the hard reset it starts every time.it doesn't do it every time I shut it down. But enough times where it's agrevating. I carry a 10mm wrench just in case and lately it's once ever time I take it out. Not my daily driver.

When the red flashing light is on the car is locked and the security system is armed. I would try the remote the next time to see if it disarms the system and allows you to start it then we can go from there.

Is it flashing a code? Watch for a minute or two.

Try changing out the negative battery cable.

If doing a hard reset requires removing a battery cable, sometimes movement restores a god connection in the cables crimped end. Try using a vise to tighten crimp on both ends of the cable.
Turned out to be my problem on my 2003 XKR.
