Default 2004 xk8 no power even after attaching jumper cables.....

H E L P......
Tried to start my car after a few month and it would not turnover battery was dead. Tried using my trusty craftsman emergency start and the dash lights went on but did not turnover.....just your usual clicking sound.

I left it alone for a few days hoping for warmer weather and tried to jump the car today. NO POWER on the dash even though the jumper cables were connected.

Also, the red light by the gearshifter is blinking, the only light on in the car. Never noticed it before but now the gearshifter is locked and can't even put it in neutral to push out of the garage.

Any thoughts?

Thank you all in advance for any light you can shed on this.

If your battery is still good then charge it, otherwise replace the battery if it does not accept a charge.

If your battery is extremely low or is faulty, jumper cables and emergency starters may not provide an adequate stable voltage to run the electronics in this car.

Follow White XKR's suggestion for getting power back on.
The flashing red light nest to the shifter is the security system indicator. You can't move the shifter unless you apply the brakes and possibly this won't work if your voltage is to low, not sure on this.
One thought here, if you've attempted to start it then the security system should have reset and be in the off mode, but if the indicator light is still flashing the it maybe that your system is still in the secure mode. Once you've opened your door either using the key or remote that light shouldn't be flashing.

if you are going to store the car in the future a trickle charger/battery conditioner is a must.

The electronics are so sensitive on the XK8, I wouldn't use a booster or a jump start but would always charge the battery off the vehicle.

If you do jump start, the procedure is different from the way you've probably been doing it for years on other vehicles.

Note the advice not to run the jump start vehicle's engine when boost starting a Jaguar.

Thanks all.

I am taking out the battery and replacing it. I bought a replacement Bosch battery a few years back...probably out of warranty but it was cheaper than I thought ($135).
As for the trickle charger had it but it looks so pretty sitting In the box.....lol. That will teach me for being lazy.

Hopefully the new battery will do the trick.....

You'll may need to do a 'Hard Reset' but will definitely have to do the battery reconnect procedure after having the battery disconnected.

Check this link for details:

If it's not the battery it could be your starter motor's siezed if you get clicking from the front end but no crank, replacement from Ebay fixed mine.

Let us know if the battery resolves
