Can someone tell me a little more in detail how the cooling fan works..Im under the impression theres nothing wrong with my waterpump at all. it took me 50 mins to get home in 5 oclock traffic the other day just crawling along the highway. My Jag was doing perfect for about 20 mins then began running warm before I cranked the heat to help it go back down and stay near normal. I have the Haynes repair manual for my car and it says theres a Relay for the cooling fan. Also, I was looking at related parts for that fan online and came across something called a thermostat switch or something like that..does the cooling fan have its own "thermostat" so it knows when it needs to kick on and cool engine in traffic like that?

Id be so happy if it were either the relay or that thermo switch since theyre both only about 50 bucks opposed to very expensive waterpumps and/or the motor that runs that cooling fan. Any help would be appreciated!!

 

i ordered the fan clutch months ago and returned it days later to Welsh Jaguar Ive told ya about when I initially wanted to get the whole overheating thing fixed. He told me that I ordered the wrong part the 1st time cuz the later XJ40s didnt have a fan clutch. I told him then I went by what all u guys said! lol. I can still test the relay cant I without purposely making it sit and run and overheat right? And where is the fan switch, on the fan unit somewhere and how would you know if that thing was bad? I know lots of questions.
