Default Engine swap XJ40

Just putting it out there , i have an XJ40 1988 3.6 with possible head issues , 2000 + if needs rebuild . my question is , i can get my hands on a good 4.0 motor for way less - $500 . now if i stripped my motor of all its bolt ons , intake manifold , throttle body , injectors , and the like , would this be a viable alternative . Is there anything else i would need to swap . Any and all advise appreciated . Don't want to let her go the way many Jags go with this problem . Thank Mark

I don't have the mechanical experience to suggest an answer however if this photo of your car is indicative of the whole car's condition then I would exhaust all possibilities including spending the $2000. What could you buy for 2k? Then you would have to spend on repairs the prior owner chose not to do. I'm not too much for white but it suites your car, the wheels, chrome fender flares, etc. Good luck. I am sure the gear heads will properly direct you.

Transmission would need to be changed as well from memory. Just check before you do take the plunge. Keep the 4.0 injectors and you would need the Engine ECU and Trans module as wel.

Why not fix the head? If it's beyond repair surely a replacement head wouldn't be THAT expensive if you did the work yourself? If you're prepared to peel off all the ancillaries ie 'bolt ons' like manifolds etc to do the engine swap, you may as well whip off the head, most of the work in removing the head will already be done taking off all the ancillaries, just a few more bolts and bob's yer uncle.
