I would start with the basics: check all fuses, all over the car. can't be that disastrous to reverse the battery cables, in fact I don't think the reversal of the cables had anything to do with it, I think you had another problem, for example, why did you disconnect or replace the battery to begin with?? Alternator problem? Discharged battery? With any Jaguar, retracing your last steps will usually provide answers.

Jose, switching the cables actually proved to be detremental to an audi that my mechanic had at his shop. The shock of the ground and the positive together blew over 10 relays, 40 fuses and a crapload of sensors. It cost 2 to 3 grand to get everything new and installed.

yes but that was an AUDI! the Jag has a few defenses built-in. gee, I hope he didn't fry all those relays and fuses. and we didn't know what exactly happened after he connected the cables to the battery, did he try to start the car? what exactly happened?? O bviously nothing happened or else he would have "felt" fuses and relays blowing.

on the '93, I don't. Maybe calling a nearby dealer's Service Dept. might get you an answer. Usually the Owner's Manual tells you where all the fuses are. A Service Manual CD is a good investment, they cost around $25. at the Jag dealer.

does the STARTER move/turn or "cranks" at all? If not, the Starter Lock Relay or Starter Solenoid may have been affected.

If the Starter cranks, (moves or turns), but no start happens, then a possibility would be the INERTIA FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH may need to be RESET, because it may have TRIPPED. (just like a house's electrical panel switch "trips" when you short AC wires). Where the Fuel Cutoff Switch is in your car, I don't know. In my '84 it is located in the passenger's side, under the right dash corner, close to the knee panel, a black box with a wire loom going to it and a black button on top.

Then another possibility is the Voltage Regulator, probably built-in the Alternator. Remove the Alternator and take it to an Alternator Shop, get it tested. If you're handy at removal of components, then you need the Service Manual. Frankly, I would not despair, anything is repairable.
