Default Horse Trainer/Grad student with 1989 Vanden Plas

Hi Folks,

I went a little bonkers a couple of weeks ago and purchased a 1989 Vanden Plas online, bought a bus ticket to Chicago and drove it back to SD. The drivetrain is great but the car has its electrical issues. Most important at this time are the headlights, then the ac blower, then the heater . . . but one thing at a time.

The left side lowbeam doesn't work but everything is fine on highbeam. Highbeams, however, don't stay on--perhaps a steering column issue. I took the car to a Jag tech for a post purchase inspection today but after he used the phrase "thousands of dollars" my brain went the way of the driver's side lowbeam headlight. What do I need to do to at least get the headlights all working?

Thanks,
Keith Brumley

Default Headlight

Headlight issue has been resolved. It needed a . . . headlight.

Heh, yeah all that can be thousands unless you do it yourself. Go to autoparts store and pick up a haynes manual and a Cresent tool kit and dive right in.

Keith,
I'm also a new owner of an 89 XJ6 Vanden Plas. I highly recomend reading the FAQ's in the XJ40 Forum (I bet you'll ask why you should be in the XJ40 Forum when you have an XJ6...someone else would have to explain it!).
Jag Bits is a great website, and there are a few more that I have yet to learn that others will certainly recomend.
Also, you may want to "google" and see if you can find any Jag Clubs in your state. Hey,.... I found here in Kentucky so anything's possible.
Lastley I would spend some time in the XJ40 forum just scrolling through and reading previous post's. I try to do it every day until I get to tired. You'll be amazed about what you can learn from reading in here,..... I often find solutions to problems I have with my Jag just by reading someone else's situation.

Good luck!
