Default How do you check for power to a/c clutch?

The air conditioning on my 1990 XJ6 isn't working. The fan blows air, but it isn't cool air. I was told that if the A/C clutch isn't turning, then it's probably bad. I'll be the first to admit that electrical issues are not my strong point. How do I check for power to the clutch? If it's just a clutch and I can replace it myself, I would rather do that than pay several hundred dollars for an A/C specialist to do it.

Do you hear it clicking when you switch the ac to on?

A lot of times the compressor wont even kick on if the freon pressure is too low. First thing I`d do is get a bottle of freon with a pressure gauge. Hook that up and see where you re at pressure wise.
Thats your best and cheapest bet for now.

I`m only about 40 miles from you...lovely without ac aint it? Lol

Lovely isn't quite the word that I was thinking of. We had a little rain on Saturday that brought the temperatures down a little. But today, we're back up to 105.

The compressor is not clicking. I did buy a can of 134a, but when I connected it to the system, and the needle was up toward the red. So I don't know what is going on.
