Default Ignition ON signal

I have installed new LED quad lights on my XJ40 1994 which include LED Halos. The lights have a single wire to connect for DRL (daytime Running light) and one single wire for the indicators.

I have connected the indicator wire and it works fine

The other for DRL I wish to pick up a power supply (preferable in the engine near the front) which operates when the car is ignition ON but headlights are OFF.

Can anyone recommend a suitable supply and suggest the correct wire? (photo would be appreciated)

Cheers John

There are plenty of spots to get an ignition-switched voltage source, but I can't think of a single one with your requirement of being live only when the headlights are OFF.

DRL's on Canadian models are switched on with the ignition so illuminated when cranking FWIW.

Larry, do you know if DRLs on Canadian cars are a function of the bulb failure modules, the central processor, or something else? No experience with them here in the states.

If so, it seems like a simple swap with the correct BFM would give you a very clean install of aftermarket DRLs without having to tap into all kinds of wires

I believe they are linked to the modules Nick - but it's been a while since I had a look at them - might be an idea to check the catalog for different part numbers for Canada?

Larry

ps I probably have a spare set in my stash.
