Default Important error in Haynes manual

Hello all,

I believe I have found an error in the Haynes XJ40 manual (XJ6 1988-94) regarding the assembly of the transmission mount. Please correct me if I am wrong. The spring buffer (insulator bushing) commonly wears out and results plenty of side to side play in the transmission rear end (vibration and thumping) The original bushings were a heavy foam item and replacements are black rubber. If you have the manual please refer to pages 7-9 to 7-10. Reassembly of the mount in Haynes calls for things in this order. 1-lower cup, 2- lower spring insulator, 3- big spring, 4- SPRING BUFFER, 5-inner cup (bump stop),6- retaining ring, 7-small spring. I belive this is wrong and should be: 1-lower cup, 2- lower spring insulator, 3- big spring, 4-inner cup (bump stop), 5- SPRING BUFFER,6- retaining ring, 7-small spring.

While It appears to be proper the Haynes way because the buffer holds the inner cup nicely several thing make me think differently.

1. The Haynes way causes the inner cup to ride about 3/4 inch higher in the assembly and jacked my transmission high enough that it was hitting.

2. The buffer itself has a lip on its outer edge that rests in the lower cup and appears to be designed NOT to move in the cup as it would with the Haynes procedure).

3. In the Haynes manual on page 7-9, while the assembly is clamped and ready to be taken apart the photograph in figure 7.6b shows the inner cup beneath the buffer (my way)

4. one photograph I found online of a mount before dissasembly shows the inner cup beneath the buffer.

5. The inner cup falls out of the mount if assemble the haynes way and the retaining ring is larger in diameter.

5. It works great when assembled my way (no vib, or noise when running and there is no improper movement)

It appears as if the cup mounted to the transmission slips inside the spring buffer to prevent side to side motion. Not the inner cup.

I would like to hear from others who know more about this and again set me straight if I'm offbase.
