if anyone wants to try you can make a CPC to J1962 converter and pull abs and tcm codes off the XJ81 and 93+ XJS with IDS, maybe more i don’t know. a certain vendor sells them for about 80 bucks
k-low k-high hot and ground
I have seen that cable and doesn't look to complicated to make. But I always wondered what kind of VIN you have to put in WDS to make it speak to the car tho.

has to be a car that’s only k line and uses a 4l80e
Hi, I am a newbie from Finland. I found this forum on Google while searching for instructions on how to use my FDS2000.
My device probably has a broken CD-Caddy drive and I need help installing a new CD-drive.
Where did you get the new CD drives? And how do I know what is compatible with my device?

I will help you to get your FDS2000 working! Am I correct you have the old Sony CD drive with a CD caddy to put your cd in? (Not all FDS2000 were built with this Sony drive but you probably have!)
As we speak I am building new boards this weekend and hopefully get them finished and tested this weekend.
If you can let me know your email address or send me a message I will get in contact with you.

I have an FDS2000 with an old CD-Caddy drive.
The CD drive reads the disc indefinitely but never loads it.

This is a huge public THANK YOU to Gijizzy. We rec. his donated repair board and within 10 min the Foundations PDU was up and running again. Amazing work and an amazing guy who donated the board to our non-profit. Thank you Gizzy.
Gijzzy,
What does the PDU base unit consist of? A headless PC with the CD drive and a power supply? What does it use for software? DOS based, Windows or ?
I've read that some people built their own base station, but I haven't seen details. Anything you can provide would be helpful.
Jal Gizzy sent our Foundation one of his uprated boards which we are so thankful for Here are pics of a fully functional and complete PDU base and parts. During its life the PDU too on a lot of extra modules shown in the green boxes. The inventory sheet is available but is only for the initial issue of the PDU. All else is covered in bulletins for the PDU. It is wall mounted if the picture is unclear.
It would be interesting if the Jaguar foundation publishes the documentation available on PDU, e.g. service bulletins, training courses, lists of accessories, etc.
It would be useful for us enthusiasts who have PDU or who want to get PDU.
We will discuss that with the volunteers. We have so much that needs attention but this can be added to the list. Stand by please. Also you might consider supporting our efforts. www.coventryfoundation.org

Thanks. I'm really interested in the electronics portion of the base station which contains the power supply and CD drive, and is apparently a module which can be removed from the huge wall mounted portion. Some people have mentioned building their own base station electronics, but I haven't seen any details of how they did it. Any info would be appreciated.
Jon
From the big lumpy base station you can take this part out, this has got all the electronics inside.
When you open it and take the CD Drive out you will see this (only your circuitboard will be different, this is a prototype of mine):
If you use my board, you will be able to build the base station yourself. You need 5V, 12V and I think 14V for the PDU but I believe it will work on 12V as well. Then you need to connect everything to the correct pins to the board and therefore you need some help. I have to build a base unit my self but never found the time to figure it out. And because it would be for my 3rd PDU I am not in a rush. Having a baby has limited my time but of course I would help you if you like.
What hardware do you have, and what are you willing to do? Software can be downloaded from the first post in this topic, so that would not be your problem.
Gijzzy is correct about the base station. In fact you do not need the second plug as it only allows charging of the batteries if you have a second unit and perhaps the battery pack. There is a work area and a storage drawer and the snazzy graphics. We preserve the unit we have for historic purposes but we have used it on some of our fleet. It is very good in diagnosing issues with the AC systems that use the piano control. Again we are thankful for Gizzy's help.

This helps a lot. I didn't realize the base station was just a power supply, the CD drive, and the interface board. I was thinking there was a computer of some sort. I guess all of the smarts are in the PDU handheld unit.
I don't have anything right now. I'm watching for a PDU handheld unit at a somewhat reasonable price. I can make cables if I can get pin outs, unless some of the cables themselves have smarts in them. I have a 1995.25 XJS 6.0 with the Teves IV ABS. I'd like to be able to access all of the modules, and do setups of things like the TPS, etc. I guess I would need the cable going to the OBD connector (my car has the 16 pin OBD II style connector), the ABS cable, the base unit to handheld unit cable, and I'm not sure what other cables are applicable. Is there a need for an ECU breakout if I can access it thru the OBD connector?
I'm trying to do my homework before I make a stupid purchase, so any insight or advice you can offer would be helpful.

Mk4 is diaged through K. 95.25 is all covered by WDS, except for climate control but nobody cares about that.
even my $600 launch can supposedly do TPS fuel trim setup o2 orientation etc.

Everything I have read says the 4.0 can be read by OBDII, but not the 95.25 V12 XJS. And WDS allegedly covered the 4.0, but not the V12. The very late v12 sedans with the NipponDenso engine management system could be read by OBDII. Dealers were even supplied with cables for the WDS and the V12, but never got the software. Mine certainly can't be read by OBDII. If someone has firsthand experience of something different, I'd like to now how and with what.

my bad i assumed when i saw tps setup i turned my brain off and thought you had a 4.0 🤦♂️
you can pull trans and abs codes out of the 6.0 XJS ABS/TCM with a WDS. look at the pinout of the cpc cable and then make your adapter
Currently we have a WDS machine in the South and the North East. One is heading to California soon and hopefully one to the South Central. Not sure about the 95.25 XJS but does it have a OBD port proper? Will Check the machine here tomorrow.

Yes, it has an OBD II style port, but not OBD II compliant.
