Default Just Bought a 89 XJ6 - Some Problems

Today I picked up a new to me 1989 XJ6 Vanden Plas.

I have a couple issues with it:

1. Once I turn the wipers on they will continue to run even after I turn the car off. I have to pull the fuse to get the wipers to turn off.

2. The front passenger side door will only open if I press into the door with my body and pull the handle at the same time.

Any suggestions on how to fix these issues?

Thanks.

Welcome,
enjoy your ride
1- It may not be an issue , just pull the stalk down once and see it if stops .Normally, as you said once you started the wipers it keeps running and only way to stop them oppps stop it , is just to move down the wiper stalk once .Bear in mind you will do this procedure once not twice or more .
2- I can't comment on this sorry but I know broken clips are fairly common pre '90 cars

OMG! You are SO not alone! I just bought an 88 Vanden Plas and I have almost the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS with mine! (The only difference is my tricky door is the driver's side.) The windshield problem is annoying but I've already put two dents in the door from bumping it to get in! So I open the passenger door first, put the window down on the Driver's side and open from the inside.

Despite the shortcomings, how's the ride? Mine runs BEAUTIFULLY aside from a loose muffler that rattles on acceleration. I'm going to strap it down when I have the chance. I bought mine from a charity that supports homeless families and children for $675. It was rough on the exterior and interior but immaculately kept under the hood and given a clean bill of health from an Independent Jaguar Service Garage. I love it!

Enjoy your Jag!

The ride is great! A passenger of mine who drives a BMW said it is the smoothest ride he has ever had in any car.

The car is immaculate on the exterior. A couple very minor dents that are barely noticeable. The paint has no rust on it at all.

I've determined the wiper is due to a faulty switch which is an inexpensive part and easy to replace.
