Default Leaper mounting advice...

Jimmy bought me a shiny new Leaper for my car (Champ) as a birthday gift. My question is - what's the best way to drill/mount it? Do we need to remove the bonnet from the car, open up the panels? Not sure how to proceed...thanks, Cindy

Cindy,

Go here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-112800/page4/

Scroll down the page almost to the bottom and you'll see a post with pics of the leaper in it. Click on the pics to enlarge.

Don't let the title of the thread throw you.

There should be no need to remove the bonnet. Once you start to mount the leaper, be very careful not to over tighten the nuts on the underside, to much tension will cause a dimple effect (dent) on the top side.... totally ruining your day.

Thanks Rob. I did check the link you posted and found it very useful, gonna pass it on to Jim. I think the 5' leaper will classy up my car a little more....can't wait for meet-ups with other cool car owners on the Island. Cheers, Cindy

Now Sunday....Jim measured & drilled holes to mount leaper....we found the screws too short to reach inside panel, AND there seems no way to get inside to attach nuts or reach screws anyway....guess we have to remove bonnet & cut access hole to finish the mounting....more drama....

Go look at my photo albums in my profile page and see all of the photos, You will need to drill all the way through and purchase a same diameter threaded rod and cut off two pieces to get the length you need.

Default Got It....

I bought a 3ft section of prethreaded ReadiRod, We saw from your photos how to do it...thank you. No bonnet removal needed.
The rod was only $1.00, money well spent! Jimmy's frustration at realizing the screws were too short - priceless.
We will be adding photos when we finally get the darn thing mounted. It will be on for the Qualicum Beach Show'N Shine this Sunday (Father's Day).
