Hi all,

Here we have events called "car cruises" where people all around the area bring their cars to show them off and swap "car talk". Bikes attend, too. I know they are national and international events.

I've been riding my 1980 Yamaha XS650 which I found in the backyard of someone I know, which was unprotected and beginning to rust away. I brought it back from the dead for not too much money.

I used to take lots of pictures, but I sort of got away from that. Maybe that's changing now that the Jag is becoming drivable, even though the summer's almost over.

Well, I took the XJ-40 to its 2nd car cruise this summer, both in this month. This was the first one I attended with her new ('90) instrument cluster which monitored her engine condition.

I didn't bring my camera this time, but here is a scan of the car plaque I was given by the host.



Perhaps, I can see some of yours from across the nation and even from across the ponds?

We do have similar events in the UK, but I haven’t been to one. The nearest thing I have attended was a meet at the Black Sheep brewery in Masham, Yorkshire in May, held to celebrate 25 years of the XJ40 (it was launched in 1986 in the UK/Europe). Quite a few attended; it was certainly the most XJ40s I have seen on the road at the same time.

Here is my old beast, a 1993MY 3.2 litre Sovereign. (The photo was taken in June 2011 though)



Procession of XJ40s led by the last one made – VIN 708757, a 4 litre Sovereign. This trip was only the second time M94FVC has been on the road, the first being a trip to a trade fair in Germany in 1994. It needed a new set of tyres for the journey.

My own car. It was once my late father’s company car.



This car, D38BRW, is the earliest known XJ40. A pre-production prototype made in 1983, it was used by Jaguar in the development of the analogue instrument pack so has the highly unusual feature of being a 3.6 with analogue instruments. It is the only 3.6 litre car with the later dials that I know of, other than the ‘Trick Freestones’ one!

I saw your pics over the weekend but only now do I have time to respond.

Very nice ride and nice pics. I've never seen so many XJ40s at one time.

I read that. It's making me consider putting the earlier head lamp surrounds on mine, now. Good to read the analogue gauges were a Jaguar development.

I was working over the last couple of days trying to repair my left turn signals and my power antenna (at least I got it to go down every time).

Why? There was a car cruise I wanted to attend on Sunday.

This cruise was at Moon Township - they take over the park. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are all invited. They gave out no plaques though.

Now that I have my camera with me, I did not see one Jaguar until I left - it actually looked like your Sovereign, David.

Two years ago I came here by motorcycle and brought my camera, too. Good thing because I saw my first AC Shelby kit car with an all, aluminium body (not glass) and also a recently released Shelby GT40 painted in dark blue metallic/candy with white racing stripes.

As I said earlier, I saw no Jags but I did take pictures of some interesting machinery. Here's one of what I consider most exotic:
