Default More A/C problems

Hi, I have a 1990 Soverign, w/110k miles. The compressor does not come on when I turn on the A/C. I have tracked it to no ground at the relay. When I jump the relay, the compressor comes to life. The schematic shows a cut-off just off of the relay, opening the circuit, I think. Does anyone know where, and what does it look like? I am tempted to jumper it with a switch, so I can manually turn it on, as the Summer months are coming. I inherited the car from my Mother in Law, when she passed last year, and I do not want to sink alot of money in her. Right now, the car is running pretty spectactular, I must admit. I had tranny problems before, but driving seemed to correct that issue. I would apprecaite any thoughts, and or suggestions. Seems the American auto makers went to a positive switch to engage their compressors. At least the less expensive ones. Thanks in advance.

Find the smaller AC line that comes from the condensor which is up front. Follow it until you get to the Receiver/drier. It should have a switch on it which cuts off the compressor if the pressure is too low. Jump it to see if that is what is happening. Find the window that lets you "see" into the flow at that point. At idle you should see some bubbles going by. At 1500 RPM there shouldn't be any. The small line should get hot when the AC is running.

Thanks for your input. I'll check that out this evening.

Well, that didn't work. There is no switch on the dryer. I followed it after the dryer, and it goes to the inside of the firewall. Now what?

Should I just dump in a can of R-143, and see what happens? If has a sticker that says it was converted in 2006.

Me thinks I will take it to a Jag shop, for proper diagnosis, as I DO NOT KNOW SPIT, about AC. Thanks for your help.

Welll, I took it in for AC diagnosis, and it was only low on freon. Or whatever they put in. No leaks. Apparently, if you do not run your AC for a while, the stuff leaks out of the compressor. Running it keeps the seals tight. So now it blows 64 degrees, and I have a list of other stuff to fix. Such is life with a Kitty Kat.
