My "Automatic Transmission Failure" light went on

If it is moving in a forward direction AND you drive quietly I see no reason why not, whatever damge or whatever occured to bring on the light, will probably NOT get any worse, since you have done 25miles in its current state, so 15 more may be OK, very grey area question, and scary as hell when auto transmissions are involved.
I am not a trans expert, and you are on the scene, and as long as the fluid is at the proper level, and there are NO silly noises hurting your ears, AND it is changing gears and not stuck in one gear, you have 2 choices, drive it, or truck it. It is your car, so ultimately your choice.
My X300 popped a trans cooler hose on our express way (similar to a freeway only smaller), and I pulled over eventually, pushed the suspect hose back on the fitting, clamped it as best I could, and drove on VERY carefully to a service station, and it took 3.5ltrs of fluid to get it to the proper level, but it still changed gears, and did NOT flare, and I drove VERY,VERY quietly, and I reckon I was damn lucky that the trans did not burn up from fluid loss.
My car my choice, so please do not let me sway your decission, if in doubt please truck it, transmission are not cheap if totally burnt up.

Good Morning, Steve:
If you go slow, it shouldn't be a problem. That's more or less what it's designed to do. The "limp mode" can be triggered by a whole host of things on this car - most of which not having to do with the mechanics of the gearbox itself. The XJ40 e-book from the Jag-Lovers site (which I think is in the FAQ section of this forum) has a very good checklist for dealing with this problem. For example, simply clearing the code by disconnecting the negative batter terminal for a short while may give you your transmission back. (It will also erase what your mechanic will need to diagnose, so I wouldn't do it if you are planning on taking it in.) A dirty or flaky TPS is a well-known culprit. This is more of an annoyance than anything. Don't panic.
Cheers,
Scott
