Default New gauge cluster info

My electronic info display on my '89 XJ40 is sketchy. I am going to try to repair it, but if I cannot, and I buy a refurbished or get one from a salvage car, what do I need to do to get the mileage either transferred or do I need to make an official notation of some kind of what the mileage was on the car compared to the new one? My car is a low mileage car and if I replace it with one from a car with >100K+ or whatever, it could reduce the value. The XJ40 is not super valuable right now, but it may be someday and I don't want to lose money if I don't have to. Thanks!

I'm not sure of this, but AFAIK the gauge isn't what records the mileage, it just displays it so doesn't matter what unit is fitted? ...no doubt someone will know for sure ..

Lawrence is correct, the actual mileage is stored elsewhere, and I believe it has something to do with the linear gear shift module, but don't quote me on that . . I'll deny it!

The repair to your electronic boards is the easiest fix. Search the forum, others have done it, so have I. I don't have time right now for detail, but it's not complicated and all you need is a low wattage soldering iron, magnifying apparatus and patience.

You can do this!
