Default PLEASE HELP! 1991 Xj6 DOORS WONT UNLOCK!

PLEASE HELP!! I can't get into the car!

Just purchased a 1991 Xj6 4.0 and received two keys with it (large one with remote (dead battery), and small one with Jaguar emblem.) My drivers door handle won't open from the outside.

I parked my car, pressed the lock button near the radio, and left. I go to unlock my car and neither key will work in either lock or trunk. Keys will go in, turn left or right, but won't unlock. When I turn to the right I can hear an audible click which I supose is the locks -relocking.

Please help! I can't get into my car. Really ashame my first post has to be about this ! If I call AAA and have them come out to slim-jim it, any pointers or advice on slim-jimming a Jaguar?

Thanks in advance!

Paul in Ohio

OUCH! Sounds weird though. Turn the key left, and try again. Maybe pull a little harder. Try through the trunk again though. Insert the key turn right and pull up, and then turn left and pull up. I'm puzzled because that SHOULD work. I don't think the slim-jimming will work anyways because if the door is unlocking, and the doors just won't open, then it's an entirely different problem and one that I've never heard of.

Had the car slim jimmed last night. Haven't locked it though, afraid same thing will happen. Still can't get trunk open.

A similar nasty trunk issue happened on me as well.We could not open the trunk ! The locksmith opened it and as I recall they (jag service) told me there was something broken due to slamming the trunk .

OK. Just fiddled around with the car a bit, here is the problem:

Neither KEY will UNLOCK the car doors or trunk, in ANY lock. Key goes in, and will LOCK either, but will NOT UNLOCK. What could have happened, in all 3 locks?

You can open the trunk by removing the number plate and push the latch open with a long screw driver. It's a pain, but it can be done.

Thanks for the tips guys. Trunk opened.

Doors won't open. Car is unlocked, and will lock, but putting key in and turning left will not unlock. It wont even click. Is there is a UNLOCK relay?

Neither key will unlock ANY of the doors or trunk are you certain that you have been supplied with the correct keys with the car and not just a set of replacement keys for the ignition barrel. The reason I mention this is because most any key will let you lock the doors and trunk, but ONLY the correct keys will allow you to unlock. Check with the person/dealer that you purchased the car from to find out a bit more history ie do they know if a replacement ignition switch had been fitted in the past?

Check all the fuses in both front fuse boxes with a test light.

For a more detailed run through of central locking problems check my previous post. The Techs (notably JagTechOhio) certainly gave very good diagnostic help and we eventually found the solution.

And finally if you did have to have a problem you have probably got one of the best independant Jaguar specialists almost on your doorstep.
Jag Tech Ohio in Powell give him a call to book the car in at British Auto Care. This guy knows his stuff!!
